Autumn 2011 update

By: | Tags: , , , , , | Comments: 0

As expected sailfish are showing in the bay, more than a few marlin also present. Yesterday we were very quickly spooled fishing at sandbank by a medium sized marlin. Lots of small marlin at Chumpon pinnacle unfortunately taking livebaits meant for the late season¬†mackerel. SW pinnacle also fishing very well although its being long-lined almost every day by a taxi boat. Very clever! Homemade outrigger working very well and will be doing more trolling inshore this year, primarily targetting sailfish. So average monsoon fishing day would be an hour or […]

September so far

Sailfish have started showing up in the bay already. We caught the first one in a while trolling lures near Nangyuan island last week. Offshore there are lots of small black marlin. Both sails and marlin should become easier to catch throughout the month. Mackerel fishing has been a bit slow. Still lots of fish here but the longliners haven’t been helping the bite much. Drew and Emma, down from Beijing caught a couple of nice ones around 10kg at the end of August fishing around the Chumpon pinnacle area. […]

Big marlin for Mike

Great fishing continues. Mackerel still on the bite almost every day. I have been fishing at Chumpon pinnacle as its relatively close and we can still catch a few most mornings without too much trouble. Boats running further to Samran pinnacle are usually suitably rewarded. Mahi swarms still around and feeding most days. There are a good few billfish showing up as expected as we move into Autumn months. Mainly offshore, and I didnt see any at the ususal inshore marks but will start to put more time into NaBaan […]

July update

By: | Tags: , , , , , | Comments: 0

Sorry for not having updated any reports for a couple months. Fishing has been quite excellent even though the weather has been almost constantly windy since last update. Mackerel are here in record numbers, this year is certainly the best mackerel fishing I can remember over the last 10 years. I have been fishing at Chumpon pinnacle at every opportunity and the mackerels have been running around the 7kg average, so slightly bigger than normal. In order not to be greedy, and also for fun I like to limit the […]

End of April update

By: | Tags: , , , , | Comments: 0

So after all the heavy rain and storms in March which affected the fishing badly, we are now enjoying great fishing. Mackerel are biting freely around the offshore pinnacles and Fads. No monsters but average sizes 5 -8 kilos. Around the pinnacle there are some much bigger fish up to 13kg. Some mahi are returning but not feeding so aggresively. Tobias and Catherina from Germany had some mackerel action fishing around the Chumpon pinnacle area landing 3 nice fish in the morning. Please contact me with any booking enquiries.

March 2011 fishing report

By: | Tags: , , , , , | Comments: 0

Game fishing season is in full swing. Water has become very clear and the king mackerel bite continues to improve. Mahi are around offshore in crazy numbers although average size is still small. GoongHeng2 has arrived on his spring holiday and had a good couple of days out fishing, losing sailfish and catching mackerel and mahi. This was a nice 6.5kg mackerel caught at TaJam wreck earlier this week. Its possible that there will be a game fishing competition on Koh Tao later this month. Dates should be 20th and […]

Conditions improving…

By: | Tags: , , , , , | Comments: 0

Conditions are improving by the day. Weather is calm and sunny and water visibility has become much clearer. That, together with the commercial fishing ban that seems to have stopped one or 2 boats from their netting and trawling has resulted in more fish around locally. ¬† We just finished a 5 day charter with Mr.Haki. 2 days were very quiet. Other days we had some nice catches of marlin, sailfish and mackerel. Lots of mahi are around offshore but we were concentrating on bigger stuff. Here are 2 pics […]

january 2011 fishing update

Weather has been generally Ok, with NE and East winds allowing fishing in Maehaad bay almost every day. Sailfish continue to be the target inshore. Huge numbers still here, although they are becoming more shy. Yesterday was the 2nd day in many weeks that we didn’t catch one. Despite occasonally blanking its still the best choice for a good days fishing, as offshore has been very poor. Josh from the US landed this sailfish on the 4th. Only one we landed out of 4 bites.
